the payment is held until you confirm delivery
Account purchases are the highest-value and highest-risk thing in this category, and they're where paying a stranger first goes wrong most expensively. Here the money is held until you confirm you have working access.
Read the listing carefully: what's on the account, which league the characters are in, and exactly what the seller hands over. Ask before you buy, not after.

Be clear-eyed about what an account purchase is. The original owner generally retains the recovery details unless the seller walks you through changing everything bound to the account. A seller who doesn't explain that process is a seller to skip. And an account transfer breaks the game's terms of service more visibly than a currency trade does — the account risk here is higher, not lower.
Escrow means you don't pay for access you never got. It does not mean the account is permanent.
Auto-release window. If you neither confirm nor open a dispute, an account order releases automatically 24 hours after the seller marks the handover done — longer than currency, because checking that account access actually works takes longer than checking that orbs arrived.
